I hope your week is going great! This Tuesday I had a cross country meet that was super important! It was a meet that would see where our girls team stood in our division and we got third! But that wasn't without difficulty. This post is for the people with asthma, an injury, or some other problem that prevents you from pushing as hard as you can.
I'm not going to give you a bunch of facts in this post about what medicines to take or how to control it. But what I am going to tell you is how to deal with it. At this particular meet I felt AMAZING before. I was prepared to get a personal record. But by the time I got to the mile and a half marker, I was wheezing bad. I finished with a 23:30 and felt as though I could not breathe. I felt defeated and frustrated because this is not the first time this has happened. I know I'll never be able to get the times I ran before I was diagnosed with asthma and vocal cord dysfunction.
But how do I deal with this? I'll admit that I have cried and been upset at myself for it but what good does that do for me? Every time I go to a meet I think positive and take precautions. But I will never stop running my best even if I have to stop and walk. Nothing is worth risking your health. It might still be frustrating and annoying but it's nothing to feel defeated about! If your back Is in pain and you're doing everything you can for it, accept it and push your limits (safely of course)!
This is my little rant about my experience and if this has happened to you as well please comment!
Love,
Emily
